What is the General Module?
The General module acts as a master processor that applies global adjustments to the final sound generated by all previous modules. It allows you to control the overall level, tuning, time-stretching, filtering, and resonance of the sound. Additionally, the Filter parameter includes an envelope that shapes its behavior over time.
How to Use the General Module
1. Main Interface
The General module consists of sliders and switches that allow you to control the following parameters:
- Level: Controls the overall volume of the final sound. Range: -24 dB to +24 dB. Default: 0.
- Tuning: Adjusts the pitch of the entire sound in semitones (st). Range: -24 st to +24 st. Default: 0 st.
- Stretch: Stretches or compresses the playback speed without affecting pitch. Range: 10% – 200%. Default: 100%.
- Filter: Enables or disables a low-pass filter with an envelope applied to it. Default: Off.
- HP (High Pass): Enables or disables a high-pass filter to remove low frequencies. Default: Off.
- Resonance: Controls the resonance of the filter, emphasizing frequencies around the cutoff point. Range: 0% – 100%. Default: 0%.
2. Envelope Behavior (Filter)
The Filter parameter includes an envelope, which dynamically shapes the cutoff frequency of the filter over time. This allows you to create evolving sounds, such as sweeping filters or percussive filter effects.
3. How to Adjust Parameters
- Find the desired control (e.g., Level, Tuning, or Filter).
- For sliders, click and drag to adjust the value.
- For switches, click to toggle between enabled and disabled states.
- Release the slider or confirm your selection to apply changes.
- After finishing adjustments, the processed sound will automatically play with the new settings.
If you hover over any control, the program may display a tooltip or additional information about the parameter. This helps you better understand how each control works.
Tips for Using the General Module
Balancing Levels: Use the Level slider to ensure the final sound sits well in your mix. Avoid setting it too high to prevent distortion.
Tuning Adjustments: Use the Tuning slider to fine-tune the pitch of your sound, especially when layering multiple sounds together.
Time Stretching: Experiment with the Stretch slider to create slowed-down or sped-up effects while maintaining the original pitch.
Dynamic Filtering: Enable the Filter switch and adjust the Resonance slider to create dynamic, evolving filter effects powered by the envelope.
Cleaning Low Frequencies: Use the HP switch to remove unwanted low-frequency rumble, making the sound cleaner and more focused.
Example Usage
- Set Level to 150% to make the sound louder.
- Adjust Tuning to +5 st to slightly raise the pitch of the sound.
- Set Stretch to 120% to slightly speed up the playback.
- Enable the Filter switch and set Resonance to 50% to create a resonant low-pass filter effect.
- Enable the HP switch to clean up low-frequency content.
- Listen to the result and notice how the envelope shapes the filter’s behavior over time.
- Experiment by lowering Stretch to 80% and increasing Resonance to 75% for a more dramatic effect.
Possible Issues and Solutions
- No Sound: Ensure that the Level parameter is set above 0%.
- Sound is Too Quiet: Increase the Level or check if the HP switch is cutting too much low-frequency content.
- Sound Doesn’t Change: Make sure you release the slider or confirm selections after making adjustments.
- Filter Not Working: Ensure the Filter switch is enabled and that Resonance is set appropriately.
